Recode the Future: What’s Behind the 2026 Motto
Published on January 26, 2026
Recode the Future isn’t just the 2026 motto of the Nürnberg Digital Festival—it’s a call to action. It reflects how NUEDIGITAL sees digital change: as something we all help create together.
Recoding means: building on what’s there, not starting from scratch
In software development, recoding is about improving and evolving existing code—not throwing it all out and starting over. And that’s how we can think about the future too. It’s not some finished program running on autopilot—it’s a shared code, written by many, and open to change. Change that’s collaborative, creative, and ongoing.
Recode the Future isn’t a narrow theme—it’s an open mindset. The festival doesn’t dictate what’s “digitally relevant.” Instead, it creates space for people from business, government, universities, startups, civil society, and the arts to define the future on their own terms.
An Open-Source Mindset for Social Change
Managing Director Ingo Di Bella puts it like this: “NUEDIGITAL isn’t a static network—it’s a system built on trust.” It’s a system that thrives when people bring their own ideas, topics, and projects to the table—not just as attendees, but as co-creators.
NUEDIGITAL doesn’t run like a traditional, top-down conference. It’s more like an open-source project: anyone can contribute their own “code” in the form of events and ideas. And the more people contribute, the stronger and more dynamic the whole thing becomes.
June 22 – July 2: Recode the Future
For eleven days, the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region becomes a hands-on lab for digital innovation and social change. With hundreds of events, thousands of people, and a wide range of views, something powerful happens—something no one could pull off alone.
