Many companies believe they’ve already checked accessibility off their to-do list: install an overlay plugin, run an automated scan—done. But this false sense of security is deceptive. True digital accessibility isn’t just a technical checklist; it’s a mindset and an ongoing process. Only when we understand it as an essential component of digital projects can we create websites that truly work for everyone.
In this workshop, we want to bring to life what accessibility actually means in everyday digital life: not abstractly, but in a practical and hands-on way. And then we’ll consider what implications companies can draw from this for their own work.
To do this, it’s important to understand the perspective of those affected. A professional will help us do just that: A blind tester navigates a real website in real time—showing where the biggest problems lie and which well-intentioned solutions often fail in practice.
It will also be interactive: You can try out a screen reader yourself and experience first-hand what a website feels like when you can’t see it. Which elements make sense, and which structures are logically accessible? And what causes significant difficulties?
We’ll also explore why overlay tools and automated tests don’t provide a reliable foundation for accessibility: they create a false sense of security. In the worst-case scenario, this can lead to significant risks—not only legally, but also in terms of authenticity and trust within your own community.
Finally, we’ll address the question of how accessibility can be sustainably embedded in teams, processes, and projects. Not just as a legal requirement at the end, but as an integral part of the work from the very beginning. We’ll discuss roles, responsibilities, and pragmatic first steps that can be realistically implemented.
By the end, you’ll leave with an honest assessment of where you stand: Where are you today? And what are the most important next steps for you and your team?

Recommended for: This workshop is intended for anyone involved in digital projects—whether in planning, design, development, content creation, or project management. In short: anyone who is responsible for, designs, or develops websites.Prior knowledge of accessibility is helpful but not required. What’s more important is a willingness to broaden your perspective—and to understand what accessibility really means in day-to-day project work: not as a mandatory exercise at the end, but as an integral part of good digital work.
