From Idea to Platform: LEAN BAKERY on the Creation and Background of the New NUEDIGITAL Website
Published on February 19, 2025

The Nürnberg Digital Festival is kicking off the season with a brand-new website—but there’s more to it than just a fresh design. Together with LEAN BAKERY as its technical partner, a custom platform was developed to meet NUEDIGITAL’s specific needs. In this article, the LEAN BAKERY team shares why an off-the-shelf solution wasn’t enough and what smart new features will enhance the festival experience moving forward.

Hey LEAN BAKERY, tell us—who are you and what do you do?
We’d love to! Our home base is Munich, but we’ve also put down roots in Lisbon and Naples. Our motivation is to develop great digital products that solve real problems and make life easier or better for users. We’re passionate about tackling complex technical challenges, which is why we always explore new technologies early on—for example, we’ve been working with blockchain for over 12 years.
"But for us, it’s not just about experimenting with new tech; we focus on evaluating meaningful use cases to ensure real value."
How do you approach new projects, and what makes your way of working and your team stand out?
"The choice of programming language or technology isn’t our top priority. Whether it’s blockchain, AI, or other innovations, what truly matters is using the right tools to create digital solutions with real value."
That’s why we select the technology that best fits each project. We dive deep into business models while keeping a clear focus on profitability and user benefits. In fact, we treat every client project as if it were our own—challenging the status quo when necessary.
We’ve been doing this for over 20 years, meaning we don’t just bring passion to the table but also extensive experience in turning diverse ideas into digital success stories. Our international team has been working together for years, bringing different perspectives to develop smart, future-proof solutions. Simply put: We design and build digital products that make a difference.
What experience do you have in developing websites (for festivals)?
"We don’t just build standard websites—we develop complex applications. The bigger the challenge, the more exciting it is for us!"
So, while festival “websites” aren’t exactly our core business, we quickly realized with the NUEDIGITAL team that the new platform needed to function more like a festival event hub—a web-based app rather than a simple site. And that’s where we have extensive experience. With over 100 successful projects, we’ve worked on everything from custom software solutions and complex data-driven business websites to ambitious e-commerce platforms.
What made this project especially exciting was creating a central platform for a decentralized festival—one where you’ll likely end up meeting every user in person at some point. And, of course, it’s a festival we love being part of ourselves!
You bring up an interesting point—you're deeply involved in the event and festival scene yourselves, right?
Absolutely! For years, we’ve been regulars at the biggest tech and digital festivals—whether it’s SXSW, Web Summit, Bits & Pretzels, or Web3 events like NFC Lisbon, NFT Paris, and NFT London. We’ve experienced these events from multiple angles.
We’ve also co-organized various Barcamps in Munich, including GameCamp, Mobile Dev Camp, and Barcamp Munich. And beyond just attending, we’ve taken on roles as organizers, exhibitors, sponsors, and even curated experiences—like our Guided Conference Experience at SXSW. These diverse experiences give us a deep understanding of different stakeholders' perspectives and needs. And, of course, all of that knowledge plays a key role in shaping the event platform for the Nürnberg Digital Festival.
What features and highlights enhance the festival experience, and why did you choose them?
When developing custom software, the big advantage is tailoring it precisely to the needs and goals of the event. Our first step was to understand the core processes that define the festival—its established structures, workflows, and requirements. We integrated all of that into the new tool to create a digital platform that delivers real value for both participants and the NUEDIGITAL team. That includes many behind-the-scenes processes that simplify back-office operations or even make certain tasks possible for the first time.
Is there a feature that excites you the most?
One major highlight is, of course, the AI-powered automation that optimizes and enhances event descriptions. But what really stood out for us as problem-solvers were the features designed to ease the workload for the NUEDIGITAL team behind the scenes. Automations, data reuse, and scheduled content updates not only save time but also ensure a smooth festival experience.
Do you have a specific example?
Absolutely! With just one click, an event can be marked as a highlight—on the day of the event, it automatically appears prominently on the homepage. This keeps the site up-to-date, even when the team is caught up in the excitement of the festival.
"In short, this platform lays a solid foundation for the future. And we’re excited to keep building on it with even more innovative features to enhance and optimize the festival experience!"
