This lecture examines the debate and worries around the effects of social media on mental health from a scientific perspective.

How worried should we be about the effects of social media? This lecture discusses the question whether and how social media can affect our mental health by examining current scientific literature on media effects. We will investigate which role devices like smartphones, different social media like Instagram or TikTok, and content on social media play. Finally, we look at potential solutions to negative effects. The lecture is in English.
