We put on a show, battling for interpretation and meaning. Algorithms and filter bubbles shift our discourses and radicalise us without us even realising it. As part of this joint event organised by the Staatstheater Nürnberg and bayern design, we want to examine the underlying mechanisms and ask: 

We will be speaking with practitioners from the fields of design and activism who do not merely inhabit digital spaces, but actively question, disrupt and reoccupy them. Take Myke, for instance, a subversive digital campaign by onlinetheater.live, which creates a powerful emancipatory counterweight to masculinist radicalisation online.   Erzählkapseln - ein fiktionalisierter Rechercheprozess combines fragmentary storytelling with immersive science fiction and self-written augmented reality software, and transposes the fictionalisation of everyday life into a speculative future in which people no longer distinguish between reality and fiction. 

And we’ll discuss Mirror Me, an interactive installation by the design studio Elastique., which allows visitors to directly experience the mechanisms of digital self-presentation in physical space by confronting our desire for the perfect virtual image with the relentless logic of automated systems.

Afterwards, we’ll take a 15-minute walk to the interdisciplinary cultural and project space Space Between, where bayern design is showing the installation Mirror Me during the Nürnberg Digital Festival from 26 to 30 June.
