proto:exhibition is part of a three-day design event hosted by the M.A. Design for Digital Futures (The Ohm), in collaboration with Design Verein, at the Space Between. 
The showcased exhibit pieces open up speculative pathways, shifting meanings, and critical perspectives on how we engage with emerging technologies within evolving societal structures and cultural landscapes — inviting you to enter the space between what is and what’s becoming.

proto is a prefix meaning first, original, or precursor to something. It’s what comes before everything else takes shape. It is a way of thinking about things in motion: identities, tools, and norms, and how we navigate the evolving relationships we form with them.

From the first tool carved from stone to today’s digital interfaces, technology has always been more than an artifact: a mirror, extension, language, and sometimes, paradox. With proto we open a space for what is still forming, a gesture toward futures that are unfinished, unknowable, and yet: unfolding.
