Automation at the Federal Employment Agency – Not Without HFA! – Human Friendly Automation

At the Federal Employment Agency, automation and AI are being gradually introduced as part of the new digital strategy, “Moving Forward Digitally,” to address demographic changes and the shortage of skilled workers. While many employees are initially excited about these developments, their enthusiasm often fades when the changes start to affect their own roles. Why? Because automation and AI deeply impact our working lives, and their effects on employees have rarely been fully considered.

The Human Friendly Automation (HFA) approach ensures that the needs and concerns of affected employees are taken into account during the implementation of automation and AI—guaranteeing quality working conditions. This approach is based on the active involvement and participation of those impacted. Only by including people in this journey can we succeed in transitioning to the new era of AI together.

In this two-hour session, Uwe Henkel, Lars Schatilow, and Lilli Baur from the Automation Center of Excellence (ACoE) will explain the HFA approach and make it more relatable through real-world examples and projects.
