Researchers from Germany and France explore the geopolitical and geoeconomic dimensions of digital transformation.

Since the mid-2010s, the term "digital sovereignty" has become a key concept in digital policy debates across various world regions. It marks a shift away from implicitly techno-deterministic visions that once portrayed digital transformation as a path toward a borderless, interconnected world.

In Nuremberg, we will present a new international edited volume developed through a collaboration between scholars at FAU and in France. The handbook Geopolitics of Digital Sovereignty offers the first comparative analysis of this geopolitical and geoeconomic shift, featuring case studies on China, India, Russia, the United States, Cuba, and Europe

The volume combines approaches from digital geography—with its focus on the socio-technical shaping of spatial relations—and political geography, which examines the spatial organization of political power. This interdisciplinary framework is further enriched by contributions from political science, law, computer science, and economics

In doing so, the volume provides an in-depth understanding of the global rise of digital sovereignty, situating it within broader socio-political and socio-economic developments. In Nuremberg, we will introduce key themes and selected chapters from the handbook.

Unfortunately, we have to postpone our event to Monday, 17 November, likely starting at 6:00 p.m. at AEG.
Further details will be shared here shortly.
