IndieWebCamp

Klingenhofstraße 5 90411 Nürnberg

The IndieWeb is an international open community of people working towards a more independent, decentralised and human-centred web. Its core idea is that people should publish content on their own websites and maintain ownership over their digital presence instead of relying entirely on large social media platforms and closed ecosystems. Rather than creating dependency on centralised services, the IndieWeb promotes personal websites, open web standards, interoperability and long-term digital self-determination.

The community develops and maintains open technologies such as Webmention, Micropub and IndieAuth, enabling social interactions across independent websites. At the same time, the IndieWeb is not only a technical initiative but also a cultural movement advocating for a more sustainable, accessible and diverse web.

IndieWebCamps are open, community-driven events centred around these ideas. They bring together people from many different backgrounds — including web developers, designers, bloggers, activists, researchers and anyone interested in open technologies and personal publishing on the web. IndieWebCamps typically combine talks, collaborative discussions, hands-on workshops and BarCamp-style sessions where participants actively shape the programme themselves.

The focus is on peer exchange, experimentation and practical collaboration. Participants learn from each other, explore new approaches and build real solutions together. IndieWebCamps emphasise openness, accessibility, respectful interaction and shared learning. They are designed to welcome both newcomers and long-time community members while fostering a culture of participation, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement of the open web.
